Antenne Bayern frequency & live stream

Antenne Bayern is a privately owned radio station serving the German state of Bavaria. Since its launch in 1988 it has grown into one of the most successful commercial broadcasters in Germany, consistently ranking among the country’s most listened-to radio stations. From its headquarters in Ismaning, near Munich, it broadcasts a mainstream mix of pop and rock hits combined with regional news, traffic and weather.

History

Antenne Bayern went on air on 5 September 1988 as one of the first state-wide private radio stations in Bavaria, made possible by the liberalisation of the German broadcasting market in the 1980s. It quickly established itself as the main commercial competitor to the public Bayerischer Rundfunk services, particularly Bayern 3. Over the decades the station has expanded into digital broadcasting and now operates a family of additional web and DAB+ channels alongside its main programme.

Format and programming

The station follows a hot adult contemporary format, playing current chart hits alongside popular titles from recent decades. Its schedule is built around strong morning and drive-time shows, hourly news bulletins, extensive Bavarian traffic reporting and weather services. Promotions, listener call-ins and large-scale prize campaigns are a hallmark of its programming, and the station also produces regional news content tailored to different parts of Bavaria.

Reach

Antenne Bayern broadcasts across the whole of Bavaria on a dense network of FM frequencies, on DAB+ digital radio and via online streams and its own mobile app. With Bavaria being Germany’s largest state by area and second largest by population, the station reaches millions of listeners daily and regularly appears at or near the top of German audience surveys for individual stations.

Significance

As a pioneer of state-wide commercial radio in Germany, Antenne Bayern demonstrated that private broadcasters could compete with established public networks at scale. It remains a benchmark for commercial radio in the German-speaking market, known for its strong brand, aggressive marketing and consistently high audience figures.
