About the project
A small independent project for radio from around the world, online
The idea
World Radio Stations is a free platform that brings radio stations from across the globe together in one place. The goal is simple: to help you find a great station in seconds — without digging through radio websites, without creating accounts, without ads in the music itself. We’re also working on an Android app that will be available soon.
The app is aimed at listeners everywhere — whether you want to discover stations from another country or keep up with your home country’s radio while living or travelling abroad.
How it was built
The project is developed in our spare time, without outside funding and without ties to any particular media group or station. Running costs are covered by unobtrusive ad banners — nothing more.
The web version you see on this site is the main way to listen — straight in your browser, no install. When the Android app is ready, it will add extra features like lock-screen playback.
Where the stations come from
The catalog is powered entirely by Radio Browser — an open, community-maintained database of radio stations from all over the world. This keeps the list always up to date: if a station starts broadcasting or changes its stream, it shows up here without any app update.
The content itself — music, news, ads, talk radio — is broadcast by the respective stations and belongs entirely to them. World Radio Stations only forwards the stream to your device.
What we do NOT do
- We don’t store anything about you on a server — we have no user server.
- We don’t require an account, email or phone number.
- We don’t track what you listen to — Radio Browser statistics are anonymous.
- We don’t interrupt the music with ads — banners stay beside the player.
- We don’t resell any data.
Technical details
The Android app is in development — it will be written in Kotlin and will support lock-screen playback, MediaSession control with physical buttons and background play.
The web player on this site is a static site built with Astro, and it plays streams with native HTML5 audio. Your favorites and history are stored locally in your browser (localStorage) — they never leave your device.
