Virgin Radio UK is a national digital music station owned by News UK through its Wireless division, broadcasting the Virgin Radio brand under licence from Virgin Group. Its output mixes contemporary hits with classic pop and rock for an adult audience.
History
The original Virgin Radio launched nationally in the UK on 30 April 1993 but was rebranded as Absolute Radio after its sale in 2008, leaving the name dormant in British radio. The current station launched on 30 March 2016 as part of a trio of new national digital stations from the Wireless Group, which News UK acquired later that year. The station gained major prominence in January 2019 when Chris Evans, one of Britain’s best-known broadcasters, moved from BBC Radio 2 to present its breakfast show. Spin-off stations, including decades- and genre-themed variants such as Virgin Radio Anthems and Virgin Radio Chilled, have extended the brand on digital platforms.

Virgin Radio UK plays an adult-leaning blend of current pop and pop-rock alongside familiar hits from recent decades.
