Radio Swiss Jazz frequency & live stream

Radio Swiss Jazz is a music-only radio station operated by SRG SSR, the Swiss public broadcasting corporation. It plays jazz, blues and soul twenty-four hours a day without advertising, following a deliberately minimal presentation style in which the music itself is the focus.

History

Radio Swiss Jazz belongs to a trio of niche music channels — alongside Radio Swiss Classic and Radio Swiss Pop — developed by the Swiss public broadcaster in the 1990s as satellite and digital services complementing its main regional radio networks. Conceived as low-cost, music-focused channels without conventional presenters, the three stations found a durable audience as digital distribution expanded, and they have become fixtures of the Swiss radio landscape in the DAB+ era.

Format and programming

The station’s playlist spans the breadth of jazz: classic swing and bebop, vocal jazz, contemporary and smooth styles, along with blues and soul. Brief announcements identify artists and titles, but there are no talk shows, no news blocks and no commercials, giving the channel a continuous, uninterrupted musical flow. Swiss jazz musicians receive deliberate attention in the playlist, reflecting the station’s public service remit to support the national music scene. Track information is published in real time on its website and apps.

Reach

Radio Swiss Jazz is distributed throughout Switzerland on DAB+ digital radio and cable networks rather than FM, and it streams worldwide via its website and mobile apps. Its online reach has earned it a substantial international audience of jazz listeners well beyond Switzerland.

Significance

As one of the few public service stations in Europe dedicated entirely to jazz, Radio Swiss Jazz fills a distinctive niche. Its commercial-free, presenter-light model has proved that focused music channels can thrive in the digital era, and it serves as a showcase for Swiss jazz internationally.
